Karon June Hughes March 24, 1945 - May 14, 2025

Words cannot express the heartbreak felt by the passing of Karon June Hughes. Taken from us on May 14, 2025 by a sudden illness.

Born March 24, 1945 in Lindale Texas, Karon was the daughter of Gerald and Julia Lacy and older sister to brother Phillip. Growing up in Tyler, Karon was considered hard headed, sassy and fun loving and by 1962, at the age of 17 she fell in love and married local boy David Hughes. They relocated to Athens and eight years later left Texas for Colorado. Living at the base of the Rockies they fell in love with the sunshine and the snow, the mountain ranges and the changing of the Aspen leaves. They spent many wonderful years there traveling, raising their two sons and enjoying what life had to offer.

With the introduction of grandchildren Karon gained the moniker of Mims, a name she embraced for the rest of her days. As the years progressed she never lost her youthful spirit or sense of style and it was not uncommon for others to guess her ten years younger than she was. Karon always kept a neat house, a garden full of flowers, and a well stocked pantry since she spent a lot of time in the kitchen. With two working parents she began cooking as a teenager and throughout her life this became her language of love. Nothing made her happier than to feed others a heartwarming meal, (her enchiladas, fried chicken and biscuits will be sorely missed).

Later in life Karon and David moved to Granite Falls Washington to live with their youngest son. There they completed an amazing 60 years of marriage together until Dave’s passing in 2022. Karon continued to make new friends, expand her cooking repertoire and even became a cat lover which was a surprise to all who knew her. She leaves behind sons Tim and Craig, daughter-in-law Alease, and grandchildren, Zachary, Kate, Sarah and Julia

Forever in our hearts, we can only hope that time softens the sorrow felt by her absence.

We love you Mims.
