Loralie Prince February 28, 1933 - February 22, 2024

Loralie Eyvonne VanHorn Prince passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at the home of her daughter Janice Oakes in Granite Falls, WA. surrounded by her family. She was 90 years old. Loralie was born in Elliott,  North Dakota on February 28, 1933 and spent her early years in Granville, North Dakota. Her family moved to Poulsbo, WA. in 1941. Her parents were George and Wilma (Boulds) VanHorn and siblings were George, Merideth, Joyce, Beverly and Cheryl. Loralie attended North Kitsap schools, graduating in 1951. She was very active in many clubs and organizations in her school and was a cheerleader all through her school years. Just after graduation, in April 1951 Loralie married Edward Madle. Their children were Janice, Denise, Judy, and David. Early in their marriage when Ed worked for Boeing, they relocated to different states, such as Massachusetts, Ohio and Louisiana, eventually settling in the Seattle area, where they raised their children. During those years Ed worked for Boeing, but also  owned Faler’s Garage  in Suquamish. After Loralie and Ed were divorced, she married John Prince who had a daughter, Jennifer. They lived in Kent and later lived in Arlington, WA. on a golf course in the Smoky Point area until John passed away in 2002. Loralie was an avid golfer and won many golf tournaments. For many years she and John would travel to El Centro, CA. with friends to play in tournaments. After John passed away, Loralie lived in a lovely home on her son Dave and daughter-in-law  Donna’s property. During her later  years Loralie reacquainted with a former classmate and friend Bill Lindsay and they had a few special years together.  When Loralie suffered health issues, she moved in with her daughter Janice in Granite Falls, WA. where she was lovingly cared for until she passed away. Besides golfing, she also loved to sew and many of us still have the beautiful tapestry purses and bags she made for family and friends. she was an excellent cook, and many of us enjoyed her special dishes and baked items. Loralie worked for several companies during her life. For many years she worked for MultiMedia Games Inc, that provided the slot machines for the newly opening Tribal casinos in the Pacific NW. She traveled many miles and would assist the workers and the players with promotions, and training on how to operate the slot machines. Loralie loved to travel with her family and friends- especially trips to Reno, Las Vegas, and to the Ocean at Long Beach, and Ocean Shores, WA.  Loralie and her sisters made many trips back to North Dakota and Montana to visit with family. She had many lifelong friends, but her children, siblings and parents were her best friends. Loralie was a very special Grandma to her ten grandsons and ten great grandchildren. Sadly, two of her children Judy Kinney and David Madle preceded her in death as have her parents George and Wilma, and her siblings George VanHorn, Merideth Todd, Joyce Lind and  Beverly Roberts. She is survived by daughters Janice Oakes and Denise Beldin both of Granite Falls, WA.,stepdaughter Jennifer Dillender (Robert) of Rosenberg, OR., daughter-in-law Donna Madle of Tulalip, WA., sister Cheryl (Bob) Meek of Poulsbo, WA., sister-in-law Violet VanHorn of Camano Island, WA. and her Grandsons Matt, Aaron, and Ben Larson, Nate Oakes, Andy and  Marty Kinney, Michael and Blake Madle and Robert and John Patrick Dillender; her ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She was a very special part of our family and will be missed greatly by all of us. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday April 13, from 1-4 PM at the Suquamish United Church of Christ, 18732 Division Ave. NE., Suquamish, WA. 98392. The family will provide a potluck, and we will haved a short program where we can share stories and memories of Loralie.
